Kick Burnout to the Curb

Somehow every quarter seems to go faster than the last, and before we know it, we’re forgetting New Years Resolutions again. Let’s fix that.

1.     Be Strategic

You’re going to need a strategy to stick to any goal, especially if you’re applying for jobs, starting a new business, or trying to increase engagement on your marketing.

What are your big end-of-the-year goals? Great. Now break those down into quarters. Now months. Now weeks. See where I’m going here?

I want you to break down your goals into easy-to-digest daily or weekly tasks. It takes time, a lot of time, to complete any project, including yours. You think Da Vinci completed the Mona Lisa in a day? No. Sit down and plan it out!

2.     Create a Calendar

All those small tasks and chores for the week clattering around your brain? Schedule it out. Put it in your calendar or use an app like Asana to plan everything out down to the hour if you can. This will free up your mind to focus on strategy and creativity.

3.     Work Smarter Not Harder

If there is a way to eliminate a step or optimize a process, do it. Ask friends and colleagues to take a look at your processes and offer feedback. I’m sure there’s a corner you can cut somewhere.

A few of my personal time-savers are using apps like Canva and Later in place of PhotoShop and old-school social posting. I save HOURS each week thanks to these bad boys. For more detail on both apps, check out my last blog post here.

4.     Hone Your Creative Skillset

A writer will write, will write, will write, right? Writers write all the time to master their craft. You should too. If you’re an awesome photographer or graphic designer, the only way to get better is to keep practicing. It makes perfect and all that jazz, yeah?

Whatever you’re selling, make sure you’re practicing that thing in whatever free time you can (amid your work/life balance of course).

Burnout is caused by overwhelm. Plan everything out in advance so you can use your time to best benefit you. Good luck!
